Muzaffarpur: Ten companies of central paramilitary forces, each comprising 100 jawans reached Muzaffarpur for pre-election area domination exercise on Tuesday. From Wednesday, central forces have been engaged in carrying out flag march in trouble-prone localities in 11 assembly constituencies of the district.
Talking about poll-related security arrangements in the district, SSP Ranjeet Kumar Mishra said the exact number of paramilitary forces to be made available during elections cannot be disclosed for security reasons as per Election Commission of India’s directive.
However, every polling station of the district would be manned by central forces to maintain law and order during the election, he said
Police have so far seized Rs18 lakh from seven persons in the district for verification whether the money was meant for influencing voters or not. Of the seized amount, Rs 11.5 lakh was recovered from two persons under Shivaipatti police station area only a couple of days back and initial investigations indicated that the money was to be spent on some ‘political’ activity, according to the SSP. The latest seizure of Rs 1 lakh was made at Bhagwanpur on Wednesday, the SSP added.
In order to keep a close vigil on the activities of persons who can disturb the election in view of their antecedents, the district police have initiated action against 11,000 people under Section 107 of CrPC. The SSP said police have taken preventive action against 122 under Crime Control Act and have forwarded a proposal to the government for action against 400 under Goonda Act.
Ever since preparations for polls started about two months back, police have executed non-bailable warrants against 5,500 people and process warrants against more that 600 people. Dossiers of over 120 persons, having criminal background, have been prepared to watch their activities on poll eve. Under a drive to regulate road traffic, police have realized a fine of Rs 5 lakh from traffic rule violators and deposited it in treasury, the SSP added.
The SSP said 35 Maoists have been arrested and two have surrendered before police and district administration.
Altogether 28 illegal arms, 100 live cartridges, 12 detonators and three live bombs have been recovered in different parts of the district from Naxalites and criminals separately, he added.
